Scholarship Committee

ROTC Scholarship Funds and Criteria

The goal of the Scholarship Committee is to ensure that deserving cadets are identified, recognized, and supported through transparent and equitable scholarship processes. The Committee also serves as the recommending body to the Executive Board for extraordinary alumni award recipients.

The Robert M. Hendrick, Jr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship

- The recipient must be a full-time student.
- Applicant must complete a scholarship application.
- The recipient must demonstrate academic excellence with a GPA of 3.0 or higher during matriculation at Virginia State University.

The ROTC Scholarship Activity Fund

- The Professor of Military Science selects recipients in collaboration with the Scholarship Committee.
- The recipient must be actively participating in ROTC or accepted for enrollment.
- The recipient must have a GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

The VSUAA Military Alumni Chapter General Support Fund

- The recipient must be enrolled in ROTC.
- The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.2 on a 4.0 scale.

Additional Information

Frequency of Scholarship Boards

The Scholarship Committee shall convene at least two (2) scholarship boards per academic year:


- Fall Board – To review fall semester applications and awards.
- Spring Board – To review spring semester applications and awards.

Additional boards may be convened at the discretion of the President or Committee Chair to address time-sensitive opportunities, donor-directed awards, or special recognition.

Applicants must meet the minimum GPA and programming requirements as outlined in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or donor agreement.
